Way back when, we used to be easily fooled by big ol "low fat" "no sugar" labels slapped on the side of your fave bevvie at the shops. These days, we've become skeptics.
Does "no sugar" actually mean no sugar?
How does it taste so darn sweet (and tasty) without it?
What kind of chemicals are pumped into these "no sugar" drinks to keep us reaching for more?
We get it. Truly. So many drinks are parading around as "better for you" when they're really just chock full of nasty artificial sweeteners.
It's why tip-top, numero uno, gets-asked-10+ times-per-week FAQ is all around sugar. Or rather, how we can make bangin' bevvies with no sugar and 100% natural ingredients.
Wanna know the secret to our sweetness?
Meet stevia
Before you click away and swear off Remedy for life, give us a second. Stevia is one of the most misunderstood natural sweeteners out there.
So, what's the deal with stevia?
Stevia is a plant. Yep, you heard us right. It's a plant that belongs to the chrysanthemum family, native to Paraguay and Brazil.
It contains no fructose (AKA sugar derived from natural sources e.g. fruits), yet is 300 times sweeter than sugar!
When we brew our bevs, we add a touch of organic stevia at the end of the natural fermentation process. This adds a touch of sweetness and balances out the flavours after we naturally brew out all of the sugar from our bevs.
Meet erythritol
It sounds like it's made in a lab, doesn't it? Again, don't run off on us too quickly! Erythritol is also one of the au naturale varieties of sweeteners.
So, what is it?
Erythritol (AKA fermented glucose) is a naturally occurring (see!) nectar commonly found in pears, watermelons, grapes and other fermented products like wine, cheese and soy sauce.
It's about 70% as sweet as table sugar (sucrose), but it has almost no calories and is non-glycaemic, meaning it does not raise blood sugar levels. This makes it a super popular choice among people with diabetes and those following low-carb diets.
Just like with stevia, we add a touch of erythritol at the end of our natural fermentation process to add a touch of sweetness and balance out the flaves.
BONUS! The erythritol we use is 100% natural and certified organic. Winner winner natural-and-certified-organic chicken dinner!
