What's The Deal With Yuzu?

We bring out new flaves every year. It's kinda our jam. Remember when you were a kid and you'd mix up potions in the backyard, adding a little bit of this and that and seeing what you could create?

That's kinda what it's like at our Remedy Fermentary. Except our Flavour Wizards aren't playing with mud and flowers, they're playing with all natural ingredients to craft some of the best tasting bevs going around.

One of the latest and greatest flaves we've been playing with is yuzu. You'll find it in our smash hit Sodaly flave, Yuzu Lemon, and one of our three iconic Small Batch flaves, Yuzu & Mandarin. Both bevs are taking Australia and New Zealand by storm, so we're here to give you the run down on what the deal is with yuzu. What even is it? Where does it come from? Is it worth the hype? What is yuzu?

Yuzu is a type of lemon. It's super fragrant, a teeny bit sour, and deliciously citrusy, originating in China and now most closely associated with Japanese cuisine. If you've been to Japan lately, you'll have no doubt stumbled across how the zest and juice amp up the flavour in all kinds of food and drink!

What does yuzu taste like?

Now that we know yuzu is a lemon, you might be thinking it tastes like a regular old lemon. Just a smidge different.

The cool thing is that yes, it's still citrusy, but it has a truly distinctive taste that sets it apart from all the other citrus flavour profiles going around. It's like your regular old lemon got dressed up for a night in the city. It's still the same humble lemon we all know and love, but with a little bit something extra. It's not flashy, it's not glitzy - but it has some extra pizazz that takes it into a class of its own.

Why do we love it?

We're huge nerds when it comes to flavours, so it's no surprise we are a little bit in love with yuzu. Not only do we love how it elevates the classic citrus flavour profile, we love that it's totally different and wholly smashable at any time of the day. It's a banger of a flave on it's own (ahem, Sodaly Yuzu Lemon), ANd it plays well with others (hello, Small Batch Yuzu & Mandarin).
